Week In Review – Week 4 -22/1/17 -28/1/17

Well, I did it!  I beat last weeks stat total of 33249 and hit a new weekly personal best of 40492, an average of 5785 steps a day.  I’m slowly easing myself back into the swing of things and while I’m still not where I want to be I’m glad that I am making a progress of sorts step wise and moving in the right direction!  I have spoken about having an appointment with the Dr on Friday in last weeks Week In Review post, and have a low functioning thyroid so have been prescribed Thyroxine which should help with my tiredness and energy levels – I started taking them yesterday so we will see how they help.

This week I am aiming to average around 7000 steps each day (I managed 2 days last week of nearly 8000 steps) which should be achievable!  I think that the evenings getting lighter will help me to achieve this as I can take Roxy out for a bit longer when I get home from work now as I seem to have more evening now that has started happening!

What are your walking plans for the week?  What goals are you setting yourself?  And what have you achieved this past week?

Week In Review – Week 2 -8/1/17-14/1/17

This week I have taken a grand total of 33249 steps, less than last weeks step total.  I am still struggling with the darkness of the evenings and getting out and about while being safe.  I also managed to hurt my shoulder which hasn’t helped much – especially with walking Roxy, as I have been worried about doing it any more damage, so have been taking it easy.  I have also been struggling with my energy levels and tiredness, I had blood tests just before Christmas and am awaiting a meeting with my Doctor to discuss my thyroid function.  I have been medicated in the past as I have an under-active thyroid and think I may need to take medication again.  I can’t wait for the meeting with my doctor to find out as at the moment the lack of energy and tiredness that I’m experiencing is getting really frustrating.  Fingers crossed that it will all be solved soon and I will be back to my active self!

We have had some cold weather here and on Friday we finally got the snow that had been threatened!  It started snowing on Thursday after a lot of sleety rain so I wasn’t entirely convinced that anything would stick at all.  What we did have was a fairly light covering which had, mostly, disappeared by the afternoon.  It was worse in work than at home as it was icy under foot and the gritters had not been out there.  I’m quite glad that it didn’t come to much as it can stop you doing so much.

I am not making too many plans regarding my activity levels this week apart from try to do more steps than last week as I think this is a better, and more achievable goal than aiming for 10000 steps each day and failing.  Lets see what happens!

What are your plans this week?

About Cancer Research Uk

As you all probably know by now, I’m doing the Walk All Over Cancer fundraising walk for Cancer Research and aiming to raise some money along the way, so in this episode of my blog I’m going to tell you a little bit about the charity – Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK is a charity which raises money to fund research and awareness into all types of cancer.  The charity started in 2002 when two preveous charities (The Cancer Research Campaign and Imperial Cancer Research Fund) merged.  One of the main objectives of the charity is to raise money to fund research into treatment of the disease, prevention and also into diagnosing the cancer.  Most of the money comes from fundraising.

Nearly 300,000 people each year are diagnosed with cancer and it has been said that around 1 in 3 of us will be affected by cancer at some point in our lives.  Cancer Research UK helps by funding 4000 scientists, doctors and nurses across the UK who work to find cures, help diagnose and care for patiets.  The work that these scientists, doctors and nurses have done has seen the survival rate for breast, skin and testicular cancer reach 75% on a 10 year survival rate.
